The
second activity that we did is about Animal Tissues. Tissues refer to the third
level of organization of the body. It covers the surface areas. Tissues can be
classified into different categories. The Epithelial Tissue, Connective Tissue,
Muscular Tissue, Nervous Tissue and Reproductive Tissue.
Epithelial
tissues act as a protective covering. They also reduce friction between parts
or organs of the body. Some of its functions are absorption, synthesis and
secretion of various proteins, excretion, sensation and thermoregulation. There
are also many classifications of epithelial tissues that differ in their shape
and location.
Connective
Tissues are the most abundant of all the primary tissues. The functions of
connective tissues are they are mechanical and protective, transport of
nutrients, metabolites and signalling factors, storage of energy-rich lipids,
water, and electrolytes and others. They are also classified in different
types.
Muscle Tissue
has the ability to contract. There are three types of muscle tissues. These are
skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscles. The functions of the muscle tissue
depends on their type.
Nervous
Tissues control and coordinate body activities. They make up the major parts of
the nervous system.
Reproductive
Tissues consists of ovaries and testes. They are responsible for the production
of egg cells or sperm cells.
In our
activity, we observed the cells of the different specimens in each stations. We
were asked to draw and label the type of tissue that we observed.
